GSA Special Paper Honors Emeritus Professor Cathy Busby
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences is proud to celebrate Emeritus Professor Cathy Busby, whose distinguished career in volcanology, sedimentology, structural geology, and tectonics has been honored with the publication of a new Geological Society of America Special Paper.
Special Paper 563: The Virtue of Fieldwork in Volcanology, Sedimentology, Structural Geology, and Tectonics—Celebrating the Career of Cathy Busby brings together 19 scholarly contributions from across the U.S. Cordillera, Mexico Cordillera, and Pacific studies. Professor Busby is author or co-author on five of these papers, underscoring her continuing impact on the field even in emeritus status.
This volume highlights Cathy’s lifelong dedication to field-based science and her influential role in shaping our understanding of volcanic and tectonic processes. It stands as a testament to her mentorship, scholarship, and leadership in the geosciences.
