Dr. David Gold Elected Chair of GSA Geobiology and Geomicrobiology Division
We are excited to share that David Gold, associate professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, has been elected Chair of the Geobiology and Geomicrobiology Division of the Geological Society of America (GSA).
GSA’s Geobiology and Geomicrobiology Division promotes interdisciplinary research on the complex interplay between the biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. Its members investigate how biological activity shapes geological processes, and vice versa, across both micro- and macro-scales, from Earth’s deep past to the present day. As Chair, Dr. Gold will help guide the division’s scientific direction, support programming at national meetings, and foster a collaborative, inclusive community of researchers.
Dr. Gold’s research explores the co-evolution of life and Earth systems, with a focus on ancient biomolecules, evolutionary transitions, and biosignatures. His lab continues to push the boundaries of geobiology through interdisciplinary work and a strong commitment to inclusive, collaborative science.

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences congratulates Dr. Gold on this leadership role and his continued contributions to the geoscience community.
