Bio

Dr. Watkins is an experimental geochemist. His group works on problems in volcanology, the early solar system, paleoclimate, hydrothermal systems, carbon sequestration, and fundamental diffusion and crystal growth processes. Active projects include: (1) Conducting experiments to better understand what happens in volcanic conduits, (2) Growing carbonate crystals to better interpret the past and forecast future environmental conditions, and (3) Growing quartz crystals to better constrain the dynamics of faults and fractures.
